Free online course - building health literacy for citizens in the community

DHI in collaboration with the ALLIANCE and the Scottish Library and Information Council launched the Information for Wellbeing course at the CILIPS Conference on 7th June.

This course is a first for Scotland and a key deliverable of the Collective Force for Health and Wellbeing action plan . It aims to strengthen the role of libraries and third sector organisations in empowering people and activating communities to take more control over their health and wellbeing.  The course is also useful for any health and social care staff wanting to support service users to engage in self-management and shared decision-making.

Information for Wellbeing has 7 modules, covering:  communicating with empathy, health information and health literacy skills, reading for wellbeing (bibliotherapy), and using remote technology. It has a strong focus on using the power of information to reach out to vulnerable groups and address health inequalities.
