DigiBete Service Evaluation in Scotland : 2025-2026
Fuzesi, Peter, Brogan, Michelle and Conway, Nicholas;
This report presents findings from a series of service evaluations assessing the impact of the DigiBete App within Scotland’s paediatric and young adult diabetes services. DigiBete is a digital health application designed to support children, young people, and families (CYPF) with Type 1 diabetes through access to trusted, standardised, and clinically approved information. The data were analysed using Contribution Analysis. Data were collected using a flexible SCI-Diabetes query to obtain quantitative data, online surveys of children, young people, and families (CYPF) and healthcare professionals (HCPs), interviews with CYPF, and focus groups with HCPs. We found that DigiBete has gained a significant user base, but there is variation in its uptake according to levels of social deprivation. Those registered with DigiBete had significantly lower glucose levels (as measured by HbA1c) compared with those who were not registered, even after adjusting for known confounders. Patients and HCPs found DigiBete to be a well-designed and engaging “one-stop shop” that offers age-appropriate and targeted information.
