Showcasing Research, Welcoming New Talent
Inside the DHI 2026 Master’s Induction and Conference

The Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre (DHI) recently hosted its annual Master's Induction and Conference, which brings together students funded through DHI's Master's Scholarship Programme.
Held on 14 October 2026 at the University of Strathclyde, the event brought together over 40 students and academics from several Scottish universities, including Heriot-Watt University, the Glasgow School of Art, Robert Gordon University, the University of Aberdeen, the University of Stirling, the University of Strathclyde, the University of the Highlands and Islands, and the University of the West of Scotland.
In the morning, we welcomed the 21 new students starting their studies with DHI's support. The afternoon marked the start of the postgraduate conference, where 17 postgraduate students presented their completed research in health psychology, exercise science, rehabilitation, healthcare leadership, medical physics, design, and data science. The presentations demonstrated not only a high level of academic rigour but also a strong engagement with real-world problems, as they explored how digital technologies can benefit Scotland's health and social care system.
The excellent presentations generated lively debates among academics and students, many of whom were already working in health and social care. Our academic jury selected three winners: Kayleigh Jarrett's (RGU) research explored the experiences of people with Angina with Non-Obstructive Coronary Arteries (ANOCA), an underdiagnosed and undertreated condition. Owen McDonald (UHI) discussed using machine learning to better understand future demand for hip and knee surgeries. Eve Calder (Strathclyde) shared insights into the development of a digital health passport for refugees in Scotland.
The event also highlighted the breadth of talent and research within DHI's Master's Scholarship Programme and reinforced the importance of creating a pipeline of future talent for Scotland health and social care sectors.
