DHI MSc Funding 2021-22

The DHI is delighted to announce 16.5 FTE Master’s scholarships in digital health and care available for application for 2021-22 intake!

The deadline for the first 14.5 FTE places for September intake is 30 June 2021.

Two FTE scholarships are currently being reserved for January 2021 intake and will be made available for application in the autumn.

The scholarships are at £7,387 each and provided on a fee-waiver basis only*.

Course organisers should send the applications to the DHI via scholarships@dhi-scotland.com by 30 June 2020.

Please note: the DHI will not accept applications directly from students. The application is submitted by the course organisers once the student’s place on their course is confirmed and the student’s eligibility for the funding is verified by the applying university.

How to apply:

  • Apply to a Digital Health and Care master’s course at your chosen Scottish university.
    • NB! It is the responsibility of the university to check the applicant eligibility for the funding **
  • Select one of the five strategic themes of the DHI to align your MSc or MRes dissertation work with (listed below). This is a requirement for DHI funding.
  • The course leader/coordinator will apply to the DHI by 30 June 2021, with the course name (MSc/MRes), start date, student’s selected theme for dissertation, and whether the student is FT/PT.
    • We will prioritise applications from dedicated taught digital health and care master’s courses.
    • Other taught master’s courses are deemed eligible (e.g., MSc in Nursing), if they contain sufficient taught digital health and care content. This needs to be demonstrated by the course leader at the application phase.
    • For MRes applications a research plan (max 2000 words) is required.
    • The funding is not available for MPhil applications, or Masters courses forming the first year of a PhD.
  • The DHI will review the applications and inform the applicants’ university by mid-July.
  • The host university and the University of Strathclyde sign a scholarship agreement.
  • The host university/course will invoice the DHI/University of Strathclyde for the funding.
  • If there should be more applicants than available places, the DHI will allocate places proportionately between the applying institutions, who will then select the most successful candidates for the scholarships.
  • If any of the 14.5 FTE scholarships are left over after the June deadline, another application process will be arranged with a deadline in August. This will be announced after the June deadline.

Please, note that successful students must align their final MSc projects with the DHI’s strategic themes:

  1. Citizen empowerment and long-term condition management
  2. Service issues in Health and Care: demand and capacity management (Topics 1 and 2 should focus on one of the following non-communicable diseases - diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, mental health, cancer)
  3. Healthy ageing and frailty
  4. Digital skills and workforce development in Health and Care
  5. Digital tools and services as an enabler in shifting care from hospital of institutional settings to the home
  6. Digital technologies in the support of Population/Public Health and or Emergency Planning (ref Covid19 or similar epidemic/pandemic threats)
  7. Future of care (in special circumstances, research that falls under the broader topic of future of care will also be considered

Please note:

  • * In cases where the MSc fee is higher than the available award, the university is expected to waive the excess fee
    • The scholarship will not cover the whole fee if the fee is higher than the award
    • The excess fee cannot be charged to the student nor charged to a third party
  • In cases where the MSc fee is less than the available award, the excess sum is intended to go towards supporting the student in their studies, be it, e.g., buying necessary equipment or funding a conference trip to disseminate their research. It is not meant to be used towards living costs
  • ** The scholarships are only available to British nationals domiciled in Scotland and EU students with settled status for at least the past three years
    • Students’ nationality is confirmed by the passport held by the student
    • Some students may be required to provide proof of residency in Scotland.
  • Courses can be taken full-time or part-time
    • NB! Part-time funding is allocated at 0.5FTE basis, the first half in the first year of study, the second half in the second year of study. This is a change to the previous year’s situation.
