All-Girl Teams Shine in #DigiInventors Challenge 2023

Young Innovators Transforming Mental Wellbeing through Digital Solutions

Launched in 2017 by the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre, the #DigiInventors Challenge has expanded in partnership with DressCode, City of Glasgow College, The Scottish Tech Army, and Heriot-Watt University in Dubai.

The challenge aims to inspire and empower young people across Scotland and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to identify and develop entrepreneurial and digital skills whilst raising awareness of career opportunities in the digital health and care sector.

This year we posed our young people the challenge question of developing an idea for a Digital Health and Care solution that uses SMART technology to help young people’s mental health and well-being, especially when dealing with peer pressure or being bullied, whilst gaining extra points if their idea had a positive impact on our environment and supports efforts to reach net carbon zero.

We received 101 applications from 396 students from across Scotland and the UAE.

4 Scottish and 4 UAE teams participated in a 2-day boot camp introducing them to co-design, the business model canvas, marketing, and how to pitch their ideas before doing so to our international panel of judges who selected their winners.

We are delighted to announce our Scottish winners of The #DigiInventors Challenge 2023 Secondary School Edition are Team Go Tree from Marr College, Troon.

Their app idea centres on improving mental health through daily tasks and mindfulness activities, fostering a supportive environment for stress relief and self-esteem building for young people.

Our UAE champions are Team SERA from GEMS Our Own English High School, Dubai.

Their idea was an AI-Powered Digital Wellbeing Assistant for Youth that uses Multimedia Sentiment Analysis, to provide a solution that combats cyberbullying, peer pressure, and negative content exposure across all major social media platforms.

Congratulations to all our winners and a massive thank you to all our participants in this year's Challenge.

The #DigiInventors Challenge Secondary School Edition will be back in August 2024 but before then we will be hosting our #DigiInventors Challenge Primary School Edition between January and April 2024, so make sure you spread the news!
